River

River

There's something about the way a river creates atmosphere in a city.  Linked by the David Trumpy Bridge, Ipswich Central  populates both the northern and southern banks of the Bremer River. This 100 kilometre waterway stretches from its source in the foothills of Rosevale to Barellan Point, where it joins the Brisbane River, and is a popular option for canoe and kayak enthusiasts.

Where the Bremer passes through Ipswich Central has become the focal point of city revitalisation with the opening of the River Heart Parklands in February 2007.  The Parklands is a tribute to Ipswich's heritage and indigenous history, and at the same time provides a unique and relaxing space right in the centre of town.

Built upon the Bremer's steep southern riverbank, the Parklands is an architectural and landscaping phenomenon and includes broad timber walk ways which zig-zag to the river's edge; a massive water feature (using recycled river water), recreated wetlands, a variety of native plantings, plenty of interpretive signage, barbecue areas and an open air function space.

Early morning yoga enthusiasts adore the birdsong and rushing water fall.  At dusk River Heart comes alive when thousands of flying foxes head out for their nightly adventures.  And when darkness falls, the river itself glows with special animated creatures of the deep.

Enter the Parklands from Roseberry Parade.  Parking and disabled access is available.
