Ipswich is now the centre of growth in South East Queensland.
Ipswich is a great place to do business and a great place to invest! Ipswich has a strong and diverse economy with many exciting opportunities for investors.
This year Ipswich was officially recognised by the International Awards for Liveable Communities for being the world's most liveable mid-sized city. Ipswich scored the win in Category C for cities with a population between 75,001 - 200,000, from a field of eight other cities around the world.
Economic Snapshot:
The Gross Regional Product for Ipswich totals almost $2.7 billion annually. The major contributors to the Ipswich economy, accounting for more than $1.4 billion are:
- Manufacturing;
- Property and Business Services;
- Retail Trade;
- Government Administration and Defence; and
- Health and Community Services.
The total annual industry production for Ipswich exceeds $4.8 billion. The major producers of goods and services, accounting for 58% of total production are:
- Manufacturing;
- Property and Business Services;
- Government Administration and Defence; and
- Retail Trade.
Ipswich industries purchase almost $1.5 billion of goods and services from local Ipswich industries each year, as input into production. However, slightly more than $1 billion of additional inputs are imported from outside the City.
Ipswich residents consume almost $1.1 billion of goods and services annually from local industries. However, a further $252 million is consumed directly out of the city. This equates to 19% of consumer spending or $1,900 per resident being spent annually outside the local economy.
In excess of $1.4 billion of goods and services are exported from Ipswich each year. The Manufacturing industry alone accounts for over half of the total value of exports, with Government Administration and Defence and Mining also significantly contributing.
