Arts

The arts are alive and vibrant in Ipswich driven by a committed arts community that has inspired many of the cultural developments in the city.  Highlights include:

Ipswich Art Gallery - one of Australia's most visited regional galleries, the Ipswich Art Gallery is a visual arts gallery and social history museum which presents a dynamic program of exhibitions and heritage displays with complementary workshops, performances and family activities.  The colonial heritage of Ipswich is represented in dedicated gallery spaces. Exhibitions in the Children's Gallery are designed to reflect children's interests and provide a family-friendly place for discovery and play.  The Gallery is located in the city's beautifully restored old town hall in d'Arcy Doyle Place, which is the Nicholas Street Mall between Brisbane and Limestone Streets in Ipswich Central.  Close to cafes and eateries the Gallery is just a short walk from the Ipswich Railway Station.  http://www.ipswichartgallery.qld.gov.au/

Ipswich Community Gallery - next door to the Ipswich Art Gallery, this delightful space is a showcase for local artists' works, with constantly changing exhibitions.

The Gallery Newtown - located in the "Top of Town" heritage precinct on Brisbane Street, this little gem combines displays of local artworks, charming gifts and a master framing service.

Ipswich Civic Hall - offering quality, imported and home grown performances, variety is the hallmark of this cultural centrepiece.  Through its annual Festival of Theatre seasons, the Civic hall offers a year-round program of local and international entertainment which attracts audiences from all over South East Queensland. http://www.ipswichcivichall.com.au/

Incinerator Theatre - once an incinerator, this Walter Burley Griffin-designed structure (the only one in Queensland) is now a theatre and home to the regular productions of local company, Ipswich Little Theatre.  The theatre is located in beautiful Queens Park.  Information about upcoming performances is available at the Ipswich Visitor Information Centre, also in Queens Park.  Call (07) 3281 0555. http://www.ipswichlittletheatre.com.au
